I recall in sophomore year, we were tasked to do an assignment on a famous person that we look up to. Roms and I were chatting in YM, bugging each other about how we thought this was a dumb assignment and that we should just copy paste Gandhi`s life from Wikipedia. A couple minutes later, he asked me again, "Who did you choose?" and I responded with Imelda Marcos.

It seemed weird for someone to look up to Imelda Marcos. I mean, we all know the story. (If you don`t, look it up.) I myself thought it was a bit weird and that I might get a failing mark on my homework. Roms just laughed at me and asked me if I was serious. Long story short, I changed and went with Mother Theresa. But, I still look up to Imelda- now more than ever.

She`s not as greedy and materialistic as most people think. She wasn`t just a pretty face- she was terribly smart and witty. And as bold as her sayings go, we have to admit that it is very true.

Okay, here are some quotes I collected really long ago.

Filipinos want beauty. I have to look beautiful so that the poor Filipinos will have a star to look at from their slums.

I did not have three thousand pairs of shoes, I had one thousand and sixty.

If you know how much you've got, you probably haven't got much.

Never dress down for the poor. They won't respect you for it. They want their First Lady to look like a million dollars.

People say I'm extravagant because I want to be surrounded by beauty. But tell me, who wants to be surrounded by garbage?

I have never been a material girl. My father always told me never to love anything that cannot love you back.
