I have a terrible headache at the moment (the cause of is a mystery to me), but I just cannot wait to post these anymore! I've been keeping tabs on the Spring Haute Couture collections. There are just a few of them and I will just post the ones I like.
Chanel
I know this is quite a lot! When I was looking through the photos of the looks, there wasn't anything that really stunned me as to how gorgeous it was. (I don't think that's what Chanel is, at least not to me) But when I started to choose the ones I liked to be included in this post, I couldn't narrow them down! There are a lot of looks that I love (the veined white coat, that black coat with a bow, that dazzling top on Lindsay Wixon), but the one that really hit it out of the park was the pink off-shoulder dress with a layered bottom. The dress has actually already been worn by Diane Kreuger (who else?) and it looked fantastic!
Another thing I really loved about this collection is the pants. Yes, those casual pastel colored ones with a slit and buttons. I am not a pants girl. Some people are, some people aren't and I'm part of the latter. I find them uncomfortable and restraining and just too hot for this country. But maybe Chanel will convert me!
If you guys haven't noticed, I have a sort-of obsession with Givenchy. It is definitely one of, if not most, my favorite labels. I think Riccardo Tisci can do no wrong. That is why I find it so hard to write about his collections. They are usually very complex and too detailed for me to pack into, at the very most, a two paragraph entry. I'll just leave you guys to decide if you love it or hate it.
These are my favorite looks from the 10 that were showed. One of these dresses (I believe it was the first one) took 4,000 hours to make! Now if that's not Haute Couture, I don't know what is!
I don't quite remember anything Alexis Mabille that I have fallen in-love with. This collection is the closest the designer has gotten to my heart. There really are a lot more beautiful looks, but they somewhat repetitive so I decided not to include them. The first time I saw that black number, I gasped. I thought it was so beautiful, but now it's sort of lost its charm. That red one, on the other hand, is growing on me. It looks so classy and yet so sexy (I feel like it's teasing me with that "Oh, my straps are falling" effect). I really hope someone wears it to the Academy Awards!
I am still not sure. I think the shiny fabric (the one used on the black pants) can be really tacky if not worn by the right person or not worn properly. I guess the red number in my favorite. It's wearable, classy, but also modern. As of now, I'm not loving this collection, but maybe it will grow on me.
Sorry, the photos here are really horribly put together. Anyway, I am liking this Christian Dior collection. It's unmistakeably a work of Galliano. I love the sky blue to nude pieces (middle row), but there are one to two pieces that are on the link between tacky and tasteful. Other than that, the clothes are good, just nothing that I would wear.
Ah, Valentino. It's one of the collections that I know will not disappoint. One thing I have to mention is the first dress (white pleated one). You can't really see the details from this photo, but if you go and look at HQ versions, it's really pretty! I have been saying it again and again, this kind of pleats (I googled and apparently they're called sunray pleats, but I never see anyone use that term) are back! Anyway, I adore this collection and all the looks above, but I'm not surprised by it. I did enjoy the burst of red in some looks.
Elie Saab is always a crowd-pleaser and I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It just goes to show just how amazing his creations are that almost everyone loves them. It is so difficult to find a favorite because they are all so beautiful! It is perfect timing because Academy Awards is just around the corner and I'm sure everyone is dying to wear these creations.
Now, i saw Jean Paul Gauiltier. Everyone was going on about how this was his best show in a long time. I don't know, I guess I'm not really the JPG kind of girl.
That is it for my Spring Haute Couture 2011 round-up! :)
