When the city that never sleeps has fashion week, then neither do I.

God that title doesn't even make grammatical sense, but I'm so exhausted I can't be bothered to think of another one. Besides, all my readers know I'm shit at making up titles, so I'm sure you'll cut me some slack.

After a whole week of going through hundreds of "*hot shot celebrity* enters the tents!" tweets, defying the laws of physiology by running on a couple hours of sleep to watch livestreams, and chatting up Cleverbot about the shows, because no real human being would discuss them with me, New York Fashion Week finally came to a close. Even though I was a tad disappointed with the majority of the collections, I still very much enjoyed taking part in the festivities *virtually*. I actually thought I picked such few favorites, but it still makes for a really long blog entry! Let's get to it, then.

Calvin Klein Collection showed on the last day, and I was glad that I at least got something pretty to look at that day. I'm not a huge fan of minimalism, as most of you probably figured out already, but when it's Calvin Klein Collection, no questions asked, I fall in love with it. I always end up liking when celebrities wear Calvin Klein so I expected a lot. My favorite pieces are those two ivory ones on the right. That iridescent coat is killing me!

J. Mendel is a common name we hear when talking about red carpet dresses, so I instantly kept my eye out for those. I saw something unexpected in the prints, but most pieces, like the ones in the bottom, are signature J. Mendel. I think I liked the collection so much because of the slits and the freedom that it gives to the fabric. Also, I love me a good business-in-the-front-party-in-the-back dress (white dress).

Theysken's Theory is one of the labels I really watch like a hawk, because I love Olivier (yes, we are on a first name basis because in my head he is my best friend) so much and, I'm not completely on board with him designing for Theory. I feel like he should be in a bigger design house or have his own big label. Sometimes I have dreams about Nina Ricci FW09, wake up in tears, curl up in a ball, and whisper "it's not over" to myself again and again. All kidding aside, I really do feel a bit heartbroken that Olivier isn't designer couture as I had just seen an interview in which he talks about telling a teacher when he was 7 years old that he wanted to be a couturier. I just want to go "YOU CAN DO IT! WE BELIEVE IN YOU!". Anyway, the collection, yes. So when I think Theysken's Theory, I think cool (maybe because I've never heard anyone talk about the label without mentioning that word). I can totally see what they mean when they say these are clothes a cool girl would wear. I'm glad Olivier showed us that he can do more than just romantic show stoppers. But I wish he would he would stick to what he does best.

I heard so many great things about the Oscar de la Renta show before I got to see the clothes for myself, and when I finally checked it out, I was convinced. Very OdlR were the huge colored gowns like that one in the yellow. The floral prints were a bit on and off, but they worked very well in that yellow floral gown. That baby pink fringe dress look so light despite all the fringe and I am loving it. This collection was generally just full of pretty dresses all around!

I was pleasantly surprised by Vera Wang this season. I'm not entirely sure why I put this here, because I am not really in love with this collection, but I do like it. I guess it's the unexpectedness that had me sold.

Christian Siriano once again put such good clothes on the runway that I just had to put him on the list. It just so happened that my favorite looks matched each other. I am so in love with that yellow maxi skirt. The three champagne colored looks are simply pretty to look at, but I don't think they would translate well in real life.
Prabal Gurung had mixed reviews, but it's a clear winner in my eyes. The purple is a welcome sight and, although it comprises much of the collection's color palette, it isn't overwhelming. I enjoyed very much all of the clothes and can actually see them being worn (which I am rarely able to say). Prabal just upped himself on the favorite designers list!

Yigal Azrouel's collection spoke to me. I'm saying this because this isn't usually the type of collection I am drawn to, but it seems that season after season, I take a liking to Mr. Azrouel's clothes. I adore the paper bag waist dress/skirt, which I would definitely wear should I have a model's body.

Jason Wu, I thought, would always have a permanent spot on my favorite collections list, but this season's had me a bit underwhelmed. Looking back at the photos, I'm realizing it's not as bad as I thought, so I suppose it's really just the disappointment that's making me not like it so much. The gowns were gorgeous, though!

Cynthia Rowley was the first collection I saw and I liked it very very much. I'm starting to adore print, which I used to avoid, and Cynthia showed us some really gorgeous ones. Also, that sweater + gold shorts combo is to die for (except those shoes have got to go!). At this point I have run out of adjectives, but all I have to say is that I like this.

So those were my favorites for New York S/S! I have to say that I was mostly bored with a lot of the collections and I was extremely let down by a lot of my favorite labels like Rodarte and Proenza Schouler (ugh I don't even want to talk about it, I'm getting all emotional). Well, here's hoping for an amazing London FW!
Comment and tell me your NYFW faves? xx
