The Ulimate Maximalist

I've contemplated deleting this blog, because, let's face it, I don't write anything substantial. I am the white noise of the internet and nobody needs that. But then I read about some exciting news that gave me all these feelings I just had to write about!

"Christian Lacroix will design a couture collection for the house of Schiaparelli." They're trying to revive the Schiaparelli house and this collaboration with Lacroix is one of their attempts at it. Although, for now, it's just one collection, I'm still extremely excited for Lacroix to be designing again, and that it's couture is just the icing on the cake! They have yet to name a creative director for the house, but my fingers are crossed that they give it to Lacroix. Who better to revive a house than an already adored designer?

See, my adoration for Lacroix is like nothing else in this world. He was that one designer that really got me into fashion, and y'all know how much I love fashion. As a preteen, I would watch Fashion TV in our kitchen and whenever I liked a collection, I would write down the name that flashes at the end of every one. Always it would be Lacroix that filled my notepads. All that flash and pizzazz, how could I not admire his creations?

I call Lacroix a maximalist. because he is that. That's why I fell in love with his designs. Although, at that age, I also liked Cavalli and D&G, Lacroix is different. Sure, anyone can do extravagant, but Lacroix makes opulent. He can put in lace, gold, sheer, neon in one look and you'd still marvel at its elegance. I want to be able to look at a garment and marvel at something new each time, and that's what a Lacroix piece does.

One thing about Lacroix pieces is that they made great editorials: that can't be denied. They're such characters on their own, and they tell such a story that even if you just photograph it on a white background, it would still catch your interest!

Most admirable about the designer is he stuck to his vision. He had to eventually close down his house, but admirable, nonetheless. In 2009, his house filed for bankruptcy. We always end up losing the true artists in fashion, usually due to their creations not selling. And it's a sad reality that not everyone can afford and appreciate a 30 layer lace hand embroidered gown. But this is a song I've been singing since I could sing. What's new? Money rules the world, not art! So even if they do name Lacroix creative director for Schiaparelli, I'm afraid there won't be the same extravagance that we so loved back then. Especially now, when everyone's mad for Celine and Raf Simons. I'm always hoping maximalism comes back, though! And if anyone can make it happen, it's Lacroix!

Why Miley Cyrus' Haters Need to Stay Pressed

I've just gotten news that I'm getting free tickets to Miley Cyrus' Gypsy Heart concert in Manila! You guys have no idea how much I have been waiting for these tickets and how much my friends and I have bothered the sponsors to give us free tickets. All those annoying text messages have finally paid off! My friends Czar, Ana, and I get Gold B tickets! I know what most people think of Miley Cyrus and I can already foresee the eye rolling and laughs I will have to endure when the day of the concert gets closer and closer and I cannot help but flail excitedly in public.

The thing is, not most people understand my devotion to Miley Cyrus. Sure, she dresses well and always has the cutest arm candy, but really, she's an inspiring person. I'm not going to turn her into Gandhi or whatever, I just want more people to see why they should stop hating on Miles.

1. She is unpretentious and genuine.
- Probably the worst thing about Disney stars is how boring they are. Miley isn't cut from the same cloth. She's funny and honest and sincere. She's unapologetic for being a real person. Everyone on Disney always have to please the masses, but Miley thinks being real is much better than being liked.

2. She's funny.
- I adore Miley's stints on SNL. She's got such a great sense of humor and she knows how to laugh at herself, which I think is great. Her latest SNL stint's opening number was hilarious. The girl can go on stage and sing about her mistakes. Watch her interviews too. She's just very charming and likeable!

3. She can't be tamed.
- I love the part of Miley that grew up right in front of us. I love that we saw that she's a real person. Her "scandalous" photos and salvia smoking are parts of what makes her a real person. I also love how unapologetic she is about it. Salvia smoking is legal and I think it's shitty that Disney makes her apologize for being a teenage girl. Nonetheless, Miley continues to be herself and have a good laugh about it.

4. Her songs are catchy.
- Don't you even deny it.

5. Awesome: A Demonstration.

Now I am sure everyone will still find things to hate about Miley, but I'm not going to ramble on about that whole "She's just a teenager and lalala". I unapologetically unironically adore Miley Cyrus.

I had a class at 10:30 that I had to painfully sit through while the Oscars was live. I debated long and hard about cutting class, but my friends convinced me not to. I got home and caught the last part of it. Those last few minutes were probably the most thrilling minutes I will ever have this week. I have been waiting for the Academy Awards for the longest time- ever since The Social Network came out actually! It has truly been an amazing year for cinema. It was this year that I became a film buff. Maybe in my next post I will make a top movies or something, but right now let's talk about the Oscars!

So, as everyone who has ever heard a noise uttered from my mouth knows, I am a huge flaming The Social Network stan. It was the movie that I wanted to take all the awards, and which I was almost certain would. When The King's Speech was said to be a front runner, I decided I would watch it, but I was really disappointed. I expected so much from what people were saying would be the movie to knock down The Social Network. It was still a pretty good film, but definitely not better in any aspect. Months before today, everyone has been saying TKS would win Best Picture because, to make the story short, TKS is the perfect formula for Best Picture and it was exactly what the academy wants. As unfair as that seems for such amazing original and cutting edge artists like Nolan and Fincher, it's obvious that the fans and critics all hail them to be the winners.

Now moving on to the dresses. I do enjoy award shows because it's very interesting to see what the stars come up with that are both beautiful and still please the public.

So Elie Saab Haute Couture was going to be a sure presence at the Oscars. The collection was just one red carpet worthy dress after another. It was the lovely Mila Kunis who got to don the beautiful lavender number. She accessorized with a simple clutch, earrings, some bangles, and a ring. It was flawless and gorgeous, but I think I would have been rendered speechless had I not seen this dress prior to Mila wearing it.

Mandy Moore wore a stunning Monique Lhuillier dress. I've seen little of Mandy Moore since her A Walk to Remember days, but I have noticed that she's recently been popping up in some best dressed lists for her promotion for Tangled. This look was wonderful since she looked like a modern day princess (classic Mandy Moore look). I do have some complaints about her hair. It seems too neat that it leaves her shoulders bare. Also, I would have liked a different colored lipstick, but that's as extensive as my complaints go for this look. Everything else is wonderful!

If only I was half as fabulous as Hailee is when I was 14. Would you all go batshit if I said she designer this dress herself? Yes, she did. With the help of Marchesa, she wore her own design to the Oscars. I just. I can't process the fabulousness that is this little girl.

Amy Adams wore a dress by L'Wrenn Scott. Amy loves to sparkle (as seen during the Globes). She does beautifully so in this amazing blue dress. I just really do not like the accessories she wore it with. A black clutch would have been great. These emerald green jewels just throw off the whole look. It's still beautiful, nevertheless.

Probably one of the best dressed of the night was Cate Blanchett. Maybe it's because I have a bias for anything Givenchy, but it cannot be denied that this was an amazing look. As repulsed as I am by ball clusters, I think the beauty of the details makes up for it. I remember the moment I fell in love with the collection this dress came from. Cate was wise in choosing an avant garde couture gown that also pleases the public.

The amazing Michelle Williams, who I was rooting for to win Best Actress, wore a Chanel Couture gown. I didn't even realize this was Chanel because it looked different on the runway and, for the record, it looks much better on Michelle. Everything- the hair, the make-up, the dress, the jewelry- just work so perfectly. Michelle was definitely the most put together with no misplaced rings here and no mismatched clutch there. So elegant as always!

Well, that's it for the best dressed! I am still not over the loss of David Fincher (who I think is an absolute genius!) over Tom Hooper, but I have the company of the million other outraged fans. Any thoughts on best dressed? How about the winners/losers? xx

I recall in sophomore year, we were tasked to do an assignment on a famous person that we look up to. Roms and I were chatting in YM, bugging each other about how we thought this was a dumb assignment and that we should just copy paste Gandhi`s life from Wikipedia. A couple minutes later, he asked me again, "Who did you choose?" and I responded with Imelda Marcos.

It seemed weird for someone to look up to Imelda Marcos. I mean, we all know the story. (If you don`t, look it up.) I myself thought it was a bit weird and that I might get a failing mark on my homework. Roms just laughed at me and asked me if I was serious. Long story short, I changed and went with Mother Theresa. But, I still look up to Imelda- now more than ever.

She`s not as greedy and materialistic as most people think. She wasn`t just a pretty face- she was terribly smart and witty. And as bold as her sayings go, we have to admit that it is very true.

Okay, here are some quotes I collected really long ago.

Filipinos want beauty. I have to look beautiful so that the poor Filipinos will have a star to look at from their slums.

I did not have three thousand pairs of shoes, I had one thousand and sixty.

If you know how much you've got, you probably haven't got much.

Never dress down for the poor. They won't respect you for it. They want their First Lady to look like a million dollars.

People say I'm extravagant because I want to be surrounded by beauty. But tell me, who wants to be surrounded by garbage?

I have never been a material girl. My father always told me never to love anything that cannot love you back.
