Milan's Best

I'm not sure what it is that makes me not go gaga over this season's collections. Maybe because I'm not getting any sleep from juggling fashion month and academic hell month. School will be out in a few weeks and everything is just piling up like mad. You know when they interview fashion people and they talk about how when they were younger they didn't do so well in school, because they were too ~artistic for that shit? Well, it doesn't sound as poetic in real life. I'm flunking French and Theology. Merde! Oh well, here's some fashion to lighten up the mood.

I fell in love with everything at the Gianfranco Ferre show. The amazing cuts make the otherwise serious clothes a sexy touch. The metallic shorts are to die for! The belts that graced almost every look were a welcome touch.

The consensus is that Jil Sander SS12 is one of the best shows this season. I don't strongly agree with that one, but that doesn't mean I don't love the collection. I adored the unconventional paisley print. I thought the white dresses were immaculate. The posh 50s vibe was great too! Yep, I did love this collection, but not breathtaking heart attack inducing love.

Aquilano.Rimondi SS12 was so full of great clothes. The collection is wearable eye candy. I always love embellishments to the point where sometimes the line between tacky and tasteful gets blurred, but there was no question about the magnificence of the duo's embellished pieces. The prints remind me of a wallpaper to be found in a really chic apartment. That is meant as a compliment. Obviously I really liked this collection, but I felt some of the nude pieces were a bit off.

One look- no, a glance- at this collection and you would already know what it was. So many pieces screamed Donatella, but with more seahorse. Hah! I must say that this is one of my favorites from Milan. The shades of lavender, blue, and green really come together. I am on love with those quirky marine prints. Of course, as we saw from the H&M x Versace collab, there are a lot of studs. Donatella takes this trend (that has been dying out) and makes it chic again!

Antonio Marras collection was a confusing one. I was well pleased with most of the clothes, but as the show progressed, I stopped finding pieces to like. But that doesn't take away from the beauty of those pieces I did like! I think I especially enjoyed the print on print happening on the first couple dresses on the photo. I also love that coat with soft fabrics that panel the sides!

Ah, Prada! Every season I end up either confused or disappointed with what Miuccia sends out. Fast forward to a month or two later and I am in love with it! This season I was more on the confused side. I really hate it when inspiration is interpreted too literally as with the cars in this collection. I was about to tear my hair out upon seeing the shoes, but the floral details were a relief. Still, we see what I call the "kuba" (hunchback) silhouette [I mean really. Who has those shoulders?] but I think they're kind of growing on me (Oh god I just imagine if those actually grew on me). Anyway, I'll just wait patiently for the day that I've seen these pieces so many times my eyes start to recognize them as beautiful. Although I doubt there's hope for those shoes.

Those are my Milan faves! They're not much. I actually had photos for Etro, D&G, and Guccu, but upon taking a second look, I realized I didn;t like them all that much. It's pretty amazing that I've narrowed it down to 6 this time! I'm improving, guys! Surely Paris will pose a challenge as I've already got so many collections on my favorites archive. Let's see! xx
