Despite me having a 6 day weekday this week due to all the school-related activities I have, I refuse to let the week slide without me going through all the shows this Spring/Summer. I had a bit of a problem going through Style.com. All this time I thought I had seen all the shows, but it turns out there were more links not displayed in their homepage. I have finally caught up now, and here are some more favorites (there are a lot!)
I, for one, always say black has always been, and always will be, the new black. I would hate wearing white because it makes me feel fat (ever since I read it in magazine when I was 12). For Band of Outsiders' collection, I would have to make an exception. I love how fresh the looks are and topped off with the sunglasses, they look extra cool. Plus, what girl wouldn't want her man wearing the Men's pieces? You'd be the chicest couple on the streets.
PS. Plaid on plaid. Do you think we will be seeing this trend more?
Doo.ri yet again proves that light colors are the way to go this Spring/Summer. I would have to say that by now, I am considering retiring my black lace, studded jackets, and ripped jeans (I am not making any promises). There is just something about it- the very light colors, the almost nude make-up, the perfect oh-I-just-tied-my-hair-in-a-rush-but-I-still-look-amazing. It's the casual cool vibe of this that makes it so great without it looking like it's even trying.
Definitely one of my favorites was Z Spoke by Zac Posen. This is the first I have checked out Z Spoke and I already love it. The amazing pairing of the green pantsuit with the apple graphic shirt is one of my favorites. I just love the prints used in this collection. Zac has managed to make fruits with faces creative instead of creepy. Definitely looking forward to more of Z Spoke!
Jill Stuart. For some odd and unexplainable reason, when I hear that, I think of a passe 40 year old woman with no interest in fashion, but likes wearing luxurious fabrics. I have no clue as to where I even got this ridiculous idea. I never even used to pay attention to Jill Stuart before so I don't know why I thought of the designs that way. Who knows, I might have been the aforementioned old woman in my past life. In any case, this perception of mine has been changed. When I hear Jill Stuart, what comes to mind now is CHIC. As much as I am bothered by the tank top in the bottom middle photo (Are those little balls? I hate ball clusters!!!!), I still have to say this is a good collection.
Christian Cota is not a very familiar name to me. In fact, I think this is the first of his collections that I have seen. I like the flowy dresses and skirts. I am glad there is a lot of sheer. My favorite piece is the blue dress (upper middle). Probably the biggest impression this show has made on me is how much I would love to have the hair of the girl in black. Long and straight is probably the way to go after I grew my hair out trying to achieve the hobo look that was so "in" months ago! Going back to the collection: I am not floored, but I like it and I will check out what Cota has more to offer.
Lela Rose by any other name would smell as sweet. And her dresses would too! (Okay, I have no idea what that means. I'm trying to say her collection is amazing.) Definitely a favorite collection of mine is Lela Rose's. Every single piece I would wear. It's young and sweet, but manages to look sexy. The pink-ish orange-ish skirt is very cool and I would love it as a gown. I love this collection to bits!
PS. Alexander Wang plait: is it back?
Tommy Hilfiger reminds me of my Aunt who enjoys wearing preppy tennis-like clothes and sunglasses all the time no matter where she is going. Probably because she owns tons of TH bags. I have no idea why I make such ridiculous connections. Now this is like a cooler version of my Aunt. I just don't like the dressed-up boat shoes- the flat ones being something that I enjoy wearing. Aside from that, I really like everything else, specially the yellow bucket hat which takes me back to my childhood when I used to own loads of them (I had a bunch of reversible ones too!). This collection is definitely bringing new trends!
Badgley Mischka. The duo have done a great job, in my opinion, for their Spring/Summer collection. The most amazing piece, for me, is the upper middle gown which makes me want to throw a big tea party for some reason. The white cu-out dress being a close second looks like something I would love to wear now that I have decided I will be more of a "white" girl now (no race pun intended, just saying I will try my best to retire my black clothes and go for the cool pure feel of white fabrics!). The white tube maxi dress is very chic. I tried on a very similar one in a deep purple color, but it turns out I am no Vlada Roslyakova (No surprise there) and it looked less than flattering on me. Taking away the fact that none of these looks would look as wonderful on my stout little frame, I still think this collection is genius!
What do you wear when you want to look like a million dollars, but like you aren't trying so hard? Elie Tahari's Spring/Summer 2011, of course! What amazes me is the flawless combination of the denim and the gold in the upper right outfit. I also love all the skinny brown belts which I think adds a little extra to my own outfits. I never thought gold could look so effortless, and yet here it is on the runways of Elie Tahari looking just that. A great collection, indeed. My only issue is the pairing of the brown shoes with the gray jacket + pants in the bottom right photo. I don't get it.
Dennis Basso's cut-out dresses look a bit familiar and remind me of Versus, but Basso puts his own touch. In very different fabrics and textures, this collection seems to be well put-together. I very much like the nude I-don't-know-what-to-call-it dress (upper left), but not so much the black dress (upper right) that makes the model look like a blob. It's still a pretty awesome collection!
Alright, that's it for now. I have a bunch more ready, but it's a school night and the roommates are trying to sleep. More time for fashion tomorrow!
