Finally, New York Fashion Week has come to a close! London FW just started, but before we move onto that I promised my top NYFW shows. I prefer S/S collections over F/W, probably because I never get to experience actual Fall or Winter in my country. It just seems so much easier to incorporate S/S trends into my wardrobe compared to F/W trends. Also, while looking at all the collections this past week, I noticed that there was a whole lot of black on the runway. I realized that I now *GASP!!!!* prefer white over black. White is just so much more refreshing to look at. Layers upon layers of black clothing was seen on the runway and it was a bit displeasing to my eyes. Although when it comes to evening wear, black is still the color to go! Okay, let's get onto it, shall we?
The one thing I love about Proenza Schouler is their ability to make clashing prints work. Lord knows how terrified I am of pairing prints with prints (I usually stay away from prints altogether), but Proenza makes it work! Printed pants? Why not if they look this good? The black blouse and mustard yellow skirt would probably be my favorite look. The necklace is so lust-worthy! I am heading over to F21 to look for a look-alike piece. The long sleeved blouse with pockets which was so popular last season is given a fresh take with material that looks like suede. Plus, the skirt is so fun! I hope to see that electric dress on the top right on an actress.
Anna Sui used to be my favorite designer when I was younger. I enjoyed all of her fun quirky clothes and the adorable prints. Then there came a time when her designs became a little too bohemian for my taste and I stopped paying attention. Now after seeing this collection, I'm starting to really like her again! Everything just appeals to 13 year old me! I love the printed stockings. I am finding it hard to choose a favorite look because they are all so cute. This collection may be a bit S/S for F/W though and maybe that's why I like it so much.
And of course, there is Marchesa! I can see the difference of this collection from last season's but some pieces look quite similar. Granted there are no more of the armor looking necklaces that go all the way around the torso, the collection's feel is still the same. Not that I am complaining. I love Marchesa dresses. They're so whimsical and stunning. My favorites are the red mini dress, the lilac crystal encrusted almost see-through gown (middle row right) and the rose pink gown with the gorgeous bottom. I cannot imagine the effort it took to make these amazing works of art! (I wonder why Marchesa isn't haute couture) These dresses are what dreams are made of. Aside from the dresses, I also fell in love with the shoes. I need to get myself lace socks!
I only realized a few seasons ago what amazing evening wear creations Mr. Naeem Khan makes. His dresses are so classy and sexy. His dresses always have something shiny- sequins, crystals, gems, what have you! It makes me wish I was an A-list celebrity just so I could show the world what I look like in one of these dresses! If I were to wear one of these, it would either be the black and silver gown with feather details at the bottom or the flowy greenish gray gown with crystals at the bottom (I had to gasp for air when I saw them). So stunning! I would be devastated if nobody wears any of these to the red carpet.
I don't have much to say about this collection. I like it because it manages to use such amazing bold colors and don't make them look so obnoxious. Everything is so sophisticated and clean. I love the black and navy blue dress (top middle). It uses leather and sheer, a few of my favorite trends! This is the first collection of Yigal Azrouel that I've liked ( I haven't really paid attention to his previous ones) so I'll be looking out for him more in the next seasons.
Not usually a fan of Marc by Marc Jacobs collections (I prefer his other labels), but this one was too good to ignore. What I love most are the shoes! Very F/W! The colors remind me so much of Autumn too! The collection still has a 70s feels to it, but it work for me now. That boxy striped coat is my favorite (to me it feels like F/W take on last season's Prada).
Part of my Top 5 would have to be DKNY! I was so surprised that I loved the collection so much because I was never really a DKNY fan. It's probably because I've owned a few really bad DKNY clothes (black tank top that reveals half my breasts, moss green knee length skirt that I will never wear) so in my mind I always thought DKNY was bad. Boy, was I wrong! Everything in this collection was just amazing! From the leather mannish coats to the bright pink and orange skirts and dresses, this collection hit all the right spots. I would sell a limb for the navy blue and black (color combination of the season?) coat (upper right)!
Preen showed such an amazing collection this season. I really do enjoy bold colors for fall! Everything was so elegant yet fun at the same time! That jeweled top with coral colored sleeves looks divine. I hope someone actually wears it just so I could see how they pull it off. Other than that, all the looks from this collection are so flattering and that's probably why I love it so much.
I really wanted to include this collection, because as much as I love the Olsens, I never really fell in love with The Row. But this collection really surprised me! Not too much layering and not too much black (although I have to admit that the black pieces were my favorites). I hope that the next collection will be just as good!
Rag & Bone showed an amazing collection. I don't remember much of Rag & Bone's previous collections, but I'm sure this one will stick! It's definitely new! I love that the letterman jacket is working its way to high fashion. I wonder if I'll see Anna Wintour sporting one. Not likely? Let's keep our fingers crossed! I adore both jackets in these looks, specially the one on the right! It looks so luxurious!
Yes, included in my favorites is, *GASP!!!* Christian Siriano. Reality star or not, he showed a good collection this season. Although the designs do look like they were copied (top middle look reminds me of Miu Miu and bottom middle dress is a bit reminiscent of Sarah Burton's butterfly dress for Alexander McQueen last season), I still really like the collection. I adore the shoes!
Whenever I post a Jason Wu design on Tumblr, it always gets at least a hundred notes. Everyone loves Jason Wu. And who could blame them? I doesn't take a fashion savant to be able to tell that Mr. Wu is very talented. This collection showed a whole lot of lace (which, all my friends will tell you, is an obsession of mine). I am so in-love with the blue blazer and the coat to its left (it reminds me of a Spanish bull fighter). This collection definitely goes to show that lace is not going away anytime soon and that makes me very very happy.
Here are some pieces that belonged to collections that I didn't really love, but the individual pieces were too good to let pass. The Karen Walker collection showed this floral dress with leather sleeves. It is so pretty, I can't believe I haven't seen any variations of it before. Of course the contrast between a flowy dainty floral print and tough leather would look amazing.
On the right is from 3.1 Phillip Lim. The collection didn't blow me away, but I still really liked it for the wonderful baseball shirt sleeve thing they have going on. The cotton shirt with the leather sleeves and leather lining is so gorgeous! In the middle is a dress from Derek Lam. Reminds me of last season's Lanvin, but I don't mind because that collection was amazing!
I am sorry! I promised myself I wouldn't make it so long and I tried to be as organized as possible, but I have so many thoughts and so many things to say about clothes that I couldn't help it. Fashion week rolls around a few times a year, so please bear with me. :) I'd like to know what you guys thought of this season's collections. What are your favorites? xx
